Room Quality Big 560 square foot rooms. That makes them bigger than the ones at Bellagio or Mandalay Bay, and we happen to think they are every bit as nice, provided you don't mind being 25 minutes from the Strip. For some strange reason there are two hotels on the property, the Spa Tower and the Palms Tower. The Palms Tower is the fancier one and its rooms are done in rich yellows and tans, and the lighting is beautifully soft. In addition, many rooms have balconies. The size allows for a big sofa int he king bed rooms, and some fancy cherry wood furniture. Palms Tower bathrooms are not as fancy as the ones over in the Spa tower, but still wildly successful in making you feel rich. The Spa Tower bathrooms are enormous and have huge tubs with separate showers. Overall, the spa tower rooms are a bit busier, with more stuff in the room, which is slightly smaller because of the big bathroom.

What Does Discount Mean?

Service Quality: Very good. They don't even yell at us for hanging around. There is hardly ever a wait to check in, and there is plenty of attentive, and amazingly professional staff to serve you. There are very few unpleasant employees, but we bet some of them are just faking being happy. The spa at this hotel is one of the best in Las Vegas, so if you need a facial or pedicure, you're in the right place.
What You Get Bottles of in the Bathroom: All the best, including high-quality soap, shampoo and conditioner. Moisturize with a generous bottle of lotion, too.
Clientele: Rich people in their forties and up. It's not our crowd, but we keep hanging around hoping some wealth will rub off on us.
How's the pool? It's an elegant pool for laying around or the occasional dip. It's not a pool for swimming laps, and unless you are a rich divorcee in your fifties, it's not going to have many gorgeous people of your age hanging around. It's big and usually not very crowded.
Free Shuttle: They used to have one, but they discontinued it. (For complete free shuttle info and schedules buy our guide--it's only $4)

Table Games: Blackjack, craps, roulette, Let It Ride, and something called Wild Aruba Stud. The games are okay, but not the best odds in town.
Machines: Slots from a nickel on up to $5. A decent selection of full-pay poker at the quarter and higher level. The vast majority of the slots are the video type, which makes the place sound a little quiet and electronic.
Bet Minimums: $5 minimums at everything, including Wild Aruba Stud. The blackjack rarely goes higher than $5. The craps game has lousy double odds.
Cocktails? Pretty good, but this place caters to well-to-do retired people, and they aren't as eager to get loaded as the dumb kids on the Strip, so they aren't as eager to shovel booze down your throat. What they do give you is pretty good, though.
Who Gets Comps? Not a wildly generous place, although it's improving. There is some food for the green chip bettor, and there are rooms for the $100 high-roller. The slot club now gives a half-percent back in cash and pcomps for slot play, and a quarter percent for video poker.

Upstairs Market Buffet: One of the fanciest buffets in town and the prices are reasonable. Lunch is usually around $10 on weekdays. We found the food aspired to be too fancy and some of the stuff just wasn't that good when it sat in a steam tray, but there is a lot of interesting dishes and it's certainly better than most other buffets in town. Look for duck, lamb, pepper steak, crab legs and other hoity-toity types of food.
J. C. Wooloughan: This is an Irish pub and restaurant that seems to do a pretty good lunchtime business. Most dishes are between $6 and $15, and a good example is the Irish Stew for $10.
Hamada: Teppan and sushi in an airy, California-style room that overlooks the grounds. This place will hit you in the wallet with $6-$10 per item sushi.
Spiedini: This fancy Italian joint is open for dinner only. It has a great view of a rock garden and the pasta and meats range in price from the mid-teens to over $30. Most of this stuff is about $20 a plate, though.
Ceres: Seafood, expensive just like everything else out here. We haven't tried it and can't comment on the quality, but the room is nice and it certainly looks like you'll get what you pay for.
Parian: Another dinner-only restaurant that serves French and continental cuisine. That means escargot, quail and other food that tastes great but won't fill that hole in your gut the way a quarter-pound hamburger will. Expect to pay about $50 a person including drinks and appetizers.
Tazzas: This is a piano bar far from the casino and crowd. It's a small, quiet space with ritzy cocktails and some finger foods. If you're looking for a quiet space away from the madding crowd, then seek this spot out.

Golfing: There is plenty of golf available in the area, and horseback riding, too. But, no horseback riding on the golf courses.

Number of TVs About 10 TVs of which five are big screens. Usually about five of the televisions are for sporting events and the rest are horses.
Number of seats About 40 seats and every single one of them is very comfortable. In fact, they have some sofas in here, so you can spread out and undo your belt. No seats have individual TVs.
How many betting windows? There are five or six betting windows.
Free Drinks? No, but there is a great bar with good beers on tap right in the sports book.
Snack Bar? No, but some of those Irish beers are like a meal in every can.
Minium wager $5 sports, $2 for racing.
Other Notes The room is really swanky. It feels like a men's club in New York or something, where rich lawyers go to unwind. Lots of guys are in here watching sports and reading the Wall Street Journal.
